For Sombre Soniks' 20th Dark Ambient anthology, artists on the SS roster were asked to form duets with other sonic explorers - GRIST chose the incredible Perthling sound artist SAMAROBRYN, whose immersive data-field concrete had been tickling his fancy all year. Thankfully, SAMAROBRYN said yes.

For the piece, SAMAROBRYN recorded a slab of metal-inspired distorted guitar (which they entitled "The Misery of the Besieged") and passed it on to GRIST, who then burned it to a CD and used it as source material, among a pile of other random CDs, for his own strange mono microlooping audio rituals. The culmination of these audiomancies were these four pieces, which, although covering all sorts of diverse genres and approaches, all stem from this one source - four organically-grown permutations formed from the same metal-inspired guitar DNA.

The piece the duo selected for the Sombre Soniks anthology ended up being "The Dream of the Besieged". The rest are presented here for the very first time.
